Manor Župčany

Župčany existed already before the 11th century and belongs to the oldest Slavic-Slovak villages, through which a non-mainland road led from Šariš Castle to the village of Svinia towards Spiš. The village was later owned by the Hungarian kings. In the 15th and 16th centuries it became the property of the landowners of the Šoš family from Solivar. According to preserved historical documents, there was a church in the village as early as in the 13th century.

In the centre of the village there is a manor house from the second half of the 19th century. The builders of the manor house were Imre Puľský and his wife Teresa, the next owner was Gejza Puľský and the last one who owned this manor house until the 1940s was Imre Puľský. The Puľskýs were well-known landowners who also owned forests in the surrounding area.

The classical mansion was built with a garden façade with a central bay. Rizalit - projection is derived from the Italian word - risalto denoting a projection in a building. An interesting feature of the mansion is the portico, a columned hallway at the entrance to the mansion. It served as a place for the owners to get out of the carriage. Next to the manor house is a building that was used to house servants.
In the park around the manor there are many rare trees.

Župčany is nowadays known mainly as Location important Slovak writer, national awakener Jonáš Záborský. It was in this village that most of his best-known literary works were written. His grave can be found on the grounds of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, where a rare stone font, used in ceremonies for more than 150 years, is worth noting. In the past, the building housed artefacts and documents relating to the work of this Slovak writer, as well as objects related to literary events in eastern Slovakia. These included books, period furniture and the piano on which Štefan Moyzes used to play. All this is currently on display in exhibitions throughout the region. The local parish still holds several books that belonged to Jonáš Záborský's personal library, many of which bear his signature or notes.

The municipality's plan is to restore the manor house and create a memorial room and restore the fountain.
