Once a year,\u00a0Discovering Pre\u0161ov<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0takes participants beyond the city limits to introduce them to interesting places, sights and stories which, whilst not directly linked to Pre\u0161ov, are certainly worth discovering. This year, this special trip took place in\u00a09 August 2026<\/strong>\u00a0and his goals became\u00a0Fri\u010dovce<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a village that harbours a true gem of Renaissance architecture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time, we set off to\u00a0the manor house in Fri\u010dovce<\/a><\/strong>, which captivated visitors not only with its history, but also with its unique d\u00e9cor and the stories of the people connected to this place.<\/p>\n\n\n

More than a hundred explorers in Fri\u010dovce<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There was great interest in this special visit \u2013 the following people visited Fri\u010dovce\u00a0more than 100 participants<\/strong>. We were, of course, delighted to see such a large group, and it was also a great source of joy for\u00a0PhDr. J\u00e1n Mikula, Mayor of Fri\u010dovce<\/strong>, who welcomed all the explorers and addressed them in his opening remarks outside the town hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a brief welcome, the participants split into two groups so that they could explore each site in smaller groups and learn as much as possible about them.<\/p>\n\n\n

In the footsteps of Franti\u0161ek Andra\u0161\u010d\u00edk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first group, accompanied by their guide,\u00a0by Andrea Sivani\u010dov\u00e1<\/strong>\u00a0set out to explore the lives of notable figures and the sacred monuments of Fri\u010dovce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The focus was primarily on a notable native of Fri\u010dovce, the Slovak poet\u00a0To Franti\u0161ek Andra\u0161\u010d\u00edk<\/strong>. His life and work are an integral part of the village\u2019s history, and during the tour we reflected on his legacy and his connection to the place where he was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tour also included a visit to\u00a0the Baroque Church of St Bartholomew<\/strong>, which offered a further insight into the rich history of Fri\u010dovce. The church and its atmosphere provided a fitting backdrop to the account of the village\u2019s past and its inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Renaissance manor house and its stories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Whilst one group explored the history of the village and its notable figures, the other made its way to the manor house. It was here that visitors were introduced to the world of Renaissance architecture and several centuries of history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The owner told us about the manor house\u00a0Franti\u0161ek Tomko<\/strong>, who guided the participants through its history, introduced the various owners and also recounted the stories associated with this exceptional building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took a look around its nooks and crannies and the rooms where the following have been preserved\u00a0period features<\/strong>, and at the same time we had the chance to admire its impressive exterior.<\/p>\n\n\n

Sgraffito decoration that is unrivalled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the castle\u2019s biggest attractions is its\u00a0unique sgraffito decoration<\/strong>. On the fa\u00e7ade there is almost\u00a0150 historical and mythological figures<\/strong>, thanks to which the manor house not only looks majestic, but also appears like an open book full of symbols and stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is precisely these details that remind us of the rich cultural heritage that lies hidden even off the beaten track. All you need to do is stop, take a closer look and explore.<\/p>\n\n\n

Sunday\u00a0Exploring Pre\u0161ov in Fri\u010dovce<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0It was further proof that fascinating stories, beautiful architecture and rare historical monuments can often be found just a stone\u2019s throw beyond the city limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would like to thank everyone who joined us and helped create such a great atmosphere with their participation.\u00a0More than a hundred explorers<\/strong>\u00a0It is a wonderful confirmation for us that learning about history and cultural heritage still has its place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So where shall we go next? We\u2019re not giving that away just yet. But one thing we know for sure \u2013\u00a0We\u2019ll keep exploring!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
